Passage: The Gospel According to Luke Luke 9:1-17
Have you ever been put in a situation where you had to do something for which you were not prepared or felt equipped to do? Do you ever feel like that as a Christian? Do you feel insufficient or underqualified to live the Christian life or serve in areas of need? Over and over in scripture, there are people whom God used for his purposes. They were not necessarily equipped or qualified for the mission, but God empowered them. As “jars of clay,” God empowers His people to do His work for His glory.
In this text, Jesus sent out the disciples to do what He has been doing. Some things cannot be learned in a text book. Sometimes you must watch someone do something and then do it yourself. It is in discipling relationships that Christians grow. You watch examples of Christian living and then you do them. If you are being discipled by someone, you should ask a lot of questions and then do it. (1 Corinthians 11:1) With Jesus' death looming, He sends the disciples out on a “training mission.” They must have had a lot of questions about their ability and the task.
