Passage: Revelation 1:1-22:21
As we have walked through the book of Revelation, we have encountered angels, demons, a great red dragon, a beast, scorpion tailed locust and a man whose eyes blazed like fire. When you see these details, you may want to look at it as a prophetic crystal ball. Yet John makes it clear that the purpose of the book is a call to endurance. Keep going! Don’t give up! Don’t cave to the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil that come at us daily.
Satan couldn’t defeat Jesus at the cross, so he set his sights on the church. Satan hates the church. He uses the beast to corrupt the government. He uses the false prophet to corrupt religion by false teaching. He uses Babylon, the world system opposed to God, with wealth, luxury and pleasure to seduce people into unbelief. We are not on neutral ground. We have an enemy who wants us to give up and stop following Jesus. This book is a call to endure. But how will it strengthen us? It is THE revelation of Jesus Christ. It is a book inspired by God to show us Jesus Christ, so that we don’t get weary and lose heart.
It is possible to get to the end of this sermon series and be overwhelmed with all we have heard. Today, we are going to zoom out to see three pictures of Jesus that will pull everything together and help us endure.
