Passage: Revelation 19:11-21
Think back to a time when your heart was set on something that you really wanted to see happen, but in the end, it didn’t happen. It could be small or something more substantial. In either case, when something that we set our hopes on doesn’t happen, it could be discouraging. (Proverbs 13:12)
When Jesus walked the earth, the people who saw and heard Him wondered if He was the Messiah. Those people had expectations, but they were expecting the wrong thing. While He is the Son of God - the Messiah - many people missed who He really was. He wasn’t a savior with military might. He was the Lamb to be slain for the sins of the world. His disciples were discouraged seeing Him put in a tomb. It wasn’t until His resurrection that
they began to understand.
Our real problem is sin and death. Jesus overcame them both by His death and resurrection. Yet with the world as it is today, even with the benefit of the truth of the scriptures, we can lose hope. Christians suffer. We wish that Jesus would be more than a sacrificial Lamb. We want Jesus to “fix” the things in our life in our way and in our time. How can our hope as suffering Christians survive and thrive? The vision of Jesus in Revelation reframes our perspective and gives us indestructible hope?
