Passage: Revelation 1:1-20
Swimming against the current is exhausting. Revelation shows that living like a Christian in a fallen world is like swimming upstream. Satan spews out lies, creating a current that flows away from God causing us to think little of God, doubt the goodness of God and take sinful short cuts.
The trials and temptations of life lead to discouragement, anger, confusion, hurt, and/or sinful choices. There are countless challenges for the Christian in this world. Satan will use these things to pull us away from God. He makes the things of the world look so comfortable, tempting us to go with the flow. How can we endure? How can we keep going against the current of the world when we are already tired? Would you/are you tempted to stop swimming for a bit? This chapter throws us a rope to strengthen us to keep going to the end.
