Passage: Psalms 33:1-22
In 1 Thessalonians, the Apostle Paul reminds us to give thanks in all things. Yes, you heard that correctly. If you are struggling under the weight of difficult circumstances, you may find this a challenge. How can you be thankful in difficult situations without faking it? Do you just grin and bear it? Is it possible to have real, heartfelt, genuine joy, hope and peace in the darkest of circumstances?
As we look at the big picture of Psalm 22, notice how it begins and ends. The psalmist begins with a command to “shout for joy to the Lord.” This command isn’t just for people who are in good, comfortable circumstances. It applies to people in difficult circumstances and trials as well. Do you think that this command feels cruel and hard?
Skip to the end…the psalmist says that “our heart IS glad in Him.” Between those verses, something happened. Shouting for joy became a reality at the end. Even if the psalmist was in tough circumstances and suffering, his heart was glad. How did he get there?
